After servicing my carburetor last week I realized that throughout my whole fuel system I'm unprotected against gunk. From my jerry can, into my funnel and to the motor there is no screen or filter. So I picked up a fuel filter today and took the time to install it.

Loosen screws for front fairing in order to get the tank out. Remove your seat. Then remove your side panels. I don't have any pics or instructions for that. Some probably do this job without removing the side panels, but for some reason, I removed them.
Look at your fuel petcock. There is a hose entering from underneath the petcock, and one from the back side of the petcock. Remove them from the petcock. Remove the bolt that holds the gas tank down, and remove the tank by pulling back and then up. Be careful in taking the tank out that...
I got the white fuel filter and green hose clamps at Advance Auto supply for about $4.00, total. I had the Briggs and Stratton red one, which I got from Lowes, but I liked the other one better, so I used it. Both are for 1/4 inch fuel hose, even though the Ninja 500 uses 5/16th hose, I think....
